I could not bring myself to write this post until today, just in time for the Conference Championship games.
My Dallas Cowboys gave their game away to the New York Giants. They had many chances to put the game away and failed to do so. This was not how I expected this season to go.
The Indianapolis Colts played a similar game against the San Diego Chargers. This is yet another case where the better team did not win.
The Green Bay Packers and New England Patriots lived up to their expectations. They both beat the inferior teams in the Seattle Seahawks and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
My picks for the Conference Championship Round are the same as last week - the home teams will win.
Green Bay Packers over the New York Giants
New England Patriots over the San Diego Chargers
The Green Bay/New York game should be the better game of the two. The below freezing conditions at Lambeau Field will be equally harsh on both teams. But I expect the experienced Brett Favre and his skill on the field will prove the deciding factor.
San Diego will be without their starting quarterback as Bobby Rivers is down with a torn ACL. New England should roll right over them quite easily. The only question is how high will they run up the score?
I am hoping for a Green Bay/New England Super Bowl, where I will support the Green Bay Packers. The Brett Favre rebirth in a season where he was expected to have retired vs. the unstoppable force of the New England Patriots is a story too good not to tell.
Update: Okay, who thought that San Diego could be holding New England to a 1 point lead in the 2nd quarter? Not me. This is a far better contest than I had imagined. Much like the GOP primary season, the NFL playoffs are leaving me scratching my head.
Update 2: New York won!!! I am stunned. Eli ruined Brett's dream season. Dammit! If the Cowboys couldn't get there, I really wanted the Packers to do it.
